Snoring & Sleep Apnea – This is a disorder characterized by pauses in breathing or shallow breathing during sleep. Dangers include an increased risk of high blood pressure, heart disease, and lung diabetes, daytime fatigue, and irritability. The Brophy Method teaches you how to breathe properly all day and night and during exercise and sex.
Stress and Anxiety – Mouth breathing (MB) causes stress & anxiety because it creates an imbalance in the body’s Oxygen & Carbon dioxide levels, which trigger the body’s stress response.
ADHD – Forward head position (FHP) is almost always associated with mouth breathing. Mouth breathing is linked to ADHD because it can lead to decreased oxygen levels in the brain, which may affect cognitive function and behavior. It can also disrupt sleep patterns, leading to fatigue and difficulty concentrating.
Joint Pain and Swelling – If you have joint pain anywhere in your body, or are dealing with inflammation in your hands and feet, chances are it’s due to a misaligned skeleton and mouth breathing. Mouth breathing causes forward head position, which can place strain on the neck and jaw joints. This poor posture can contribute to joint pain and inflammation of the Temporomandibular joint (TMJ) and every joint below all the way to your fingers and toes.
Flat Feet – Forward head position causes flat feet, because of the altered mechanics and muscle imbalances throughout the body. This causes the muscles in the lower leg and feet to turn off, which causes the arches to collapse.
The Brophy Method teaches you how to restore foot strength & proper alignment with exercise of the lower extremities. and breathing techniques to improve foot arch support and reduce the risk of flat feet.
Arthritis in hands and feet – Do you have painful fingers and toes? Mouth breathing and FHP contribute to arthritis in the fingers and toes by affecting overall body alignment and muscle function. When the body is not aligned it places increased stress on the joints in the fingers and toes, leading to inflammation and eventually arthritis.
TMJ - Temporomandibular Joint Disorder -
Forward head position opens the mouth dislocating the jaw, causing many symptoms including pain in the jaw, clicking of the jaw, headaches, misaligned teeth and shrinking of the mouth. It is important to work on correcting your posture day & night, to keep the jaw located in the joint, which will alleviate the discomfort and symptoms caused by jaw dislocation.
